Frequently Asked Questions at CBe-learn

I want to take a CBe-learn course – how and when do I register?

CBe-learn registration and courses run year round. Registration and program calendars are here. If you currently attend a CBE school, registration is done with your counsellor. If you do not currently attend a CBE school, you need to come in person to our offices to register. More information and documentation details are here.

I am unable to login to D2L, how can I get my account fixed?

If you currently attend another CBE school, your network username and password are controlled by a delegate at your school. You will need to contact that school delegate to have your account updated.

If you do not currently attend another CBE school, your network username and password are controlled by the CBe-learn password change tool. Detailed instructions for accessing and updating your account can be found on the technical help page where you will find a document called Getting Started with CBe-learn.

I’m already registered. Why can’t I get into my courses in D2L?

In the registration process, students are added to their courses in D2L. However, you may not immediately access the course for a couple of reasons.

  • If you are a first time student at CBe-learn, regular course access is restricted/blocked until the prerequisite e-learn course is successfully completed.
  • If you are registering early or before a course start date, the course will appear in your D2L login, but will remain an inactive link until the course start date is reached. The course start date is listed beside the course link when you log in.
  • If you are unable to log into D2L please see the technical help information here.

Can I finish early and get my final marks before the scheduled end date of my course?

Yes and no. You are encouraged to make regular progress in your online courses and may work ahead of the prescribed schedule in the course. If you finish your course early your final mark will be available in D2L but it is NOT submitted to Alberta Education until after the published end date of the course. Therefore, if you finish a course ahead of schedule it does not mean your final mark will be available on your Alberta Education transcript ahead of schedule. You may request a Mark Verification letter from CBe-learn at any time during a course for a small fee. This letter is an “unofficial” record of your current marks and progress and may be used to show prerequisite requirement are complete or for tentative post secondary applications. Note that it is the post secondary institution’s discretion to accept or reject an unofficial Mark Verification letter as proof of course completion.

How many credits is each course worth at CBe-learn?

The credits value of each course, along with any perquisite course information, is listed beside each CBe-learn course title in the course list.  Course lists are here.

My marks showing in D2L do not match my report card and transcript marks, why?

The mark showing in D2L should always correspond with both your report card (at the time of printing) and transcript information at Alberta Education (after final marks have been submitted to Alberta Education). If they do not correspond with your report card from CBe-learn, please contact the school to ensure the matter is investigated and corrected. When final marks are posted in D2L they are also gathered and prepared for transfer to the Alberta Education database. This process is NOT automatically completed at the conclusion of every course. Alberta Education only collects marks from the CBE database 4 times per year, on prescribed dates set by Alberta Education. You should anticipate a delay between the completion of your online course and the final mark showing on your Alberta Education transcript.

I am out of town and want to complete my courses at a distance – is that possible?

It is possible to complete CBe-learn courses from anywhere in the world. Alternative examination procedures can be used to do exams remotely and course access is available via the internet everywhere. If you will be out of province or in another country, for the majority of the semester, the course fee structure changes. The fee schedule can be found here.

Completing a diploma exam outside of the province/country is also possible but requires an application to Alberta Education directly. For more information, please contact your school counsellor or CBe-learn administration.
