Online, instructor-facilitated, 18 hours over a designated three-week period. Optional 90 minute face to face orientation on first day of class

Course Summary

This course is for teachers or education assistants who wish to work with colleagues to develop accessible websites based on the principles of Universal Design.

Audience

This course is intended for all educators who:

  • Have completed Level I of the Calgary Board of Education’s "Teaching and Learning Online" Certificate program
  • Are interested in the principles of Universal Design
  • Are interested in constructing a website based on universal design principles

Learner Outcomes

  • Become an online student for three weeks in an online course facilitated by one or more instructors
  • Work with other educators in examining key issues related to Universal Design
  • Develop a universal design compliant website

Requirements

Skills

  • General knowledge of Windows, word processing and basic computer operations (e.g. saving files, creating folders etc.)
  • Basic Internet navigation
  • Some understanding of website design

Optional Prerequisite

Hardware & Software

  • While no special hardware or software is required, you may wish to check the Technical Requirements Document to ensure that you have everything you need.

Time

  • Optional 90 minute face to face orientation on first day of class
  • Plan on spending 4 to 5 hours per week over the 3-week duration of the course
