Course Summary
This course is for teachers or content developers who are interested in learning how to use simple HTML tags to enhance an online course through text and graphics. Basic web design principles will be discussed and an overview of popular web editors will be provided. Participants will work offline to create HTML files, then use the shared web space in the course to display uploaded web content.
Audience
This course is intended for all educators who:
- Have completed Level I of the Calgary Board of Education’s "Teaching and Learning Online" Certificate program
- Plan to use web-based resources in their work with online learners, classroom learners or communities of practice
- Are interested in learning how to use simple HTML tags, then an HTML editor of choice, to prepare activities for web delivery
Learner Outcomes
- Become an online student for seven weeks in an online course facilitated by one or more instructors
- Work with other educators in examining key issues related to web page design
- Participate in a variety of exercises to fundamentals of HTML
- Identify areas within the Learning Management System where HTML files can be created
Requirements
Skills
- General knowledge of Windows, word processing and basic computer operations (e.g. saving files, creating folders etc.)
- Basic Internet navigation
- Note: This course involves a significant amount of autonomous learning. Participants should be confident users of technology.
Prerequisites
Hardware & Software
- While no special hardware or software is required, you may wish to check the Technical Requirements Document to ensure that you have everything you need.
Time
- Optional 90 minute face to face orientation on first day of class
- Plan on spending at least 4 to 5 hours per week over the 7-week duration of the course
