e-Portfolio

Course Summary

This course is for teachers or CBE employees who are interested in learning how to use e-portfolios in their classroom. Participants will explore the types of ePortfolios and  consider what best practice might be in the context of their individual classrooms. The course contains a number of instructional videos demonstrating how to use the ePortfolio tool within the Calgary Board of Education’s learning management system Desire2Learn. By the conclusion of the course, participants will have created their own ePortfolio.

Audience

This course is intended for all teachers and CBE employees who wish to be involved in the following:

  • explore ePortfolios and enjoy exchanging ideas regarding best practice with colleagues
  • use ePortfolios in their classrooms
  • develop their own professional ePortfolios
  • learn how to use the ePortfolio tool located within D2L

Learner Outcomes

  • know how to use ePortfolios to support authentic assessment in the classroom
  • work with other educators in examining key issues related the use of ePortfolios
  • create their own ePortfolio
  • become familiar with Desire2Learn’s ePortfolio tool

Requirements

Skills

  • General knowledge of Windows, word processing and basic computer operations (e.g. saving files, creating folders etc.)
  • Basic Internet navigation
  • Ability to navigate within Desire2Learn

Prerequisites

Hardware & Software

  • While no special hardware or software is required, you may wish to check the Technical Requirements Document to ensure that you have everything you need.

Time

  • Plan on spending  a maximum of 4 to 5 hours per week over the 5-week duration of the course
