Podcasting and the Auditory Learner

Online, instructor-facilitated, 18 hours over a designated three-week period. Optional 90 minute face to face orientation on first day of class
Course Summary
This course is for teachers or content developers who are interested in learning how to incorporate podcasting into their classrooms. A review of learning styles and and a particular examination of auditory learner will also be featured. Participants will work offline to create podcasts for their own classrooms.
Audience
This course is intended for all educators who:
- Have completed Level I of the Calgary Board of Education’s "Teaching and Learning Online" Certificate program
- Plan to use podcasts in their work with online learners, classroom learners or communities of practice
Learner Outcomes
- Become an online student for seven weeks in an online course facilitated by one or more instructors
- Work with other educators in examining key issues related to auditory learners, learning styles and podcasting
- Create their own podcast
Requirements
Skills
- General knowledge of Windows, word processing and basic computer operations (e.g. saving files, creating folders etc.)
- Basic Internet navigation
Optional Prerequisite
Hardware & Software
- While no special hardware or software is required, you may wish to check the Technical Requirements Document to ensure that you have everything you need. Participants will also need to download Audacity, free open source software.
Time
- Optional 90 minute face to face orientation on first day of class
- Plan on spending 4 to 5 hours per week over the 3-week duration of the course
