Summer School @ CBe-learn! (Information from 2011)

Registration:

April 11 – May 11, 2011: CBe-learn @ Ernest Manning High School

  • If you are a student currently at a CBE school: Students already studying at a CBE high school will register through their high school guidance counsellor. Students will be responsible for faxing their payment form to CBe-learn for their course.
  • If you are not currently a student at a CBE school (but have been a CBE student in the past): call 403-777-7971 (ext. 2272)  to make an appointment to meet with the CBe-learn advisor/counsellor to be accepted into summer school courses.
  • If you have never been a student in a CBE school: call 403-777-7971 (ext. 2272)  to make an appointment to meet with the CBe-learn advisor/counsellor to be accepted into summer school courses. You will need to complete the Calgary Board of Education Registration Form before meeting with an advisor.

  • If you are a grade nine student wanting to take a Grade 10 course: meet with the guidance counsellor of the high school you will be attending in the fall for permission. You need approval from your counsellor prior to registering. Once you have written approval, register in person at CBe-learn @ Ernest Manning between April 11 and May 11.
  • If you already have a high school diploma, and are taking a summer school course to upgrade: make sure you have the correct prerequisites,and register in person at CBe-learn @ Ernest Manning.

Cost:

  • All CBE and CBe-learn Students are assessed $60.00 per Summer School Course
  • Out-Of-Province Students, Adult Students and International Students are assessed regular fees.
  • All students pay a book rental of $85.00 per course
    • ($60.00 of the book rental will be returned when the book is returned in good condition)
  • Payment Information:  Payments can be made in person at CBe-learn @ Ernest Manning or via fax. Payments cannot be taken over the phone.

Schedule:

Summer school class schedule: May 26 –July 29, 2011. All classes are online, but some have mandatory face-to-face assessments and exams.

Students are allowed to take a maximum of 2 courses: one 5 credit course, and one 3 credit course.

Exams:

Midterm / Final Exams: If there is a midterm or final exam the student MUST be present for it at the testing centre. There will be no proctoring for students taking a course who are out of town, province or country.

Diploma Exams: The Diploma Exam schedule is available. Students writing Diploma Exams with CBe-learn need to review this information page.

Non-Diploma Courses: Students cannot write a non-diploma final exam early.

 

July Courses:

Four course are being offered from July 4 through 29th. Any students who have not completed e-learn will complete it from June 24 through June 29th.

CALM: CALM is offered in July and allows students to complete this mandatory 3-credit course outside of the school year.

Compressed Math 20Pure, 20Applied and Math 24: These courses are only offered to students who have already completed the course once, and are looking to re-take the course for the final time. This is the last time that Math 20Pure, Math 20Applied or Math 24 will be offered at CBe-learn.

 

Other Important Summer School Information:

Withdrawal date: Students will receive a 90% refund if they withdraw within one week after course starts. Any students who withdraw after this date will not be provided with a refund.

Requirement for new online students:  All new online learners must successfully complete e-learn, the pre-requisite online course prior to the subject course start date.  Completion of the pre-requisite course awards one credit for e-Learning and Learning Management Systems (COM1255). e-learn must be completed between May 16 – May 24 (and between June 24 – June 29 for July Courses)
